A NINE-DAY TRIP EXPERIENCING SOME OF THE BEST THE KALAHARI HAS TO OFFER
Locals say that once you've felt the red sand of the Kalahari beneath your feet, its magic will call you back time and again. For this unforgettable journey into the heart of the Kalahari, the 4-Star Molopo Lodge - a well-known landmark in the Kalahari - will serve as our rendezvous point. Our home for the first three nights will be at the Molopo lodge’s luxury campsites, each featuring its own private ablution facilities or different chalet options to choose from.
While staying at this iconic location, we’ll embark on the Rooiduin 4x4 trail, situated nearby. Naas, the owner and native resident of the Kalahari will accompany us, sharing many interesting stories. The adventure continues as we explore places of interest such as Koo Pan, Hakskeen Pan - where a recent attempt at the world land speed record took place - the historic Mier settlement, Philanderbron and the border town of Rietfontein. Here, one truly experiences the essence of true Kalahari life and its resilient people.
From Molopo Lodge, we head to Goerapan for a one-night camp where star gazing will be breath-taking. Known for hosting the annual Goerapan 4x4 event every June, this site attracts off-road enthusiasts from across South Africa. Here we will enjoy a relaxing afternoon before going on an amazing sunset drive with a bird’s eye view overlooking the Goerapan with a breath-taking Kalahari sunset. Here luxury tented accommodation is once again an option.
Next, we travel to Riemvasmaak, home of the renowned hot springs, where we’ll unwind over two nights. Guests can soak in the tranquillity of the warm springs or browse local curios and coffee shops in the charming town nearby. For the adventurous, a short drive to the Gariep River is always a welcome escape. Riemvasmaak offers chalet accommodation with stunning views.
To conclude our Kalahari expedition, we’ll spend two nights at Khamkiri - a 4-Star Lodge & Camping Resort perched on the banks of the Gariep River, just 25 km from Kakamas. Voted the best self-catering camp and resort in the Northern Cape by SA-Venues guests, Khamkiri offers grassy campsites shaded by large trees and a wide array of activities including mountain biking (rentals available), guided nature walks, birdwatching, fly fishing, scenic sundowner drives and short river rafting excursions in two-man crocks. Excellent chalet accommodation is available. There’s simply no better way to wrap up a journey through the Kalahari.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

RENDEZVOUS
PLACE: MOLOPO LODGE near Askham approximately 200km north of Upington.

TIME: Arrive any time during the day. Please arrive before 17h00.
EARLY ARRIVAL AT MOLOPO LODGE
Should you plan to arrive early at the Molopo Lodge, please inform them upon your arrival that you are part of the Cederberg 4×4 group. Arriving early will also give you enough time to enjoy all amenities the lodge offers.
ITINERARY
Day 1
Rendezvous at the famous Molopo Lodge some 15km north of Askham and 200km north of Upington. Our three nights here will ensure we have excellent private camping ablution facilities, a swimming pool, great pub and a restaurant giving you options for meals. The local farm stall in Askham is a must visit.
Day 2
We will drive the well-known Rooiduin 4x4 trail, navigating some of the red dunes of the Kalahari. Driving the red dunes of the Kalahari is an experience unlike any dune area you might have driven before. Naas, the owner of the 4x4 trail and native resident of the Kalahari, will accompany the group and share much information about the Kalahari.
Day 3
A day visiting many places of interest. Starting with a visit to the Koo Pan being used as a landing strip for small planes flying clients in to visit some of the lodges in the area. The small town of Mier will be on our route to the famous Hakskeen Pan whare an attempt on the world land speed record was done recently. The small towns of Philanderbron and Rietfontein will be on our route before returning to Molopo Lodge.
Day 4
Depart for Goerapan only 100km south of Molopo Lodge. An early arrival will ensure we have enough time to
relax at the lodge and set camp or book into the tented accommodation. A sunset drive, with numerous options of difficulty, close to the camp is where we will enjoy an amazing sunset surrounded by the red dunes of the Kalahari.
Day 5
We head for Riemvasmaak some 250km away. As we are driving through Upington, a stop will be made for supplies to be replenished. An early afternoon arrival will leave enough time to enjoy the hot springs. Riemvasmaak is filled with history and Norbit a native resident of Riemvasmaak and a well-known personality of the TV Voetspore program will possibly visit us at the camp, sharing history of Riemvasmaak and numerous other stories of his worldly 4x4 travels.
Day 6
Enjoy a relaxing day at Riemvasmaak hot springs or visit the town and its interesting curio shops and coffee shops. For the more adventurous you may consider driving to the Gariep River for a picnic lunch.
Day 7
Depart for our final destination of the Kalahari Deluxe trip namely, Khamkiri 4-Star Lodge and camping on the bank of the Gariep River only 30km drive from Riemvasmaak. Our early arrival will ensure you enjoy the optimum that Khamkiri has to offer. Numerous activities are on offer at Khamkiri with fishing being high on the list of activities. You are welcome to bring your own or hire fishing tackle at the lodge.
Day 8
Mid-morning a relaxing river rafting trip in two-man crocks will be done. The level of the water in the Gariep River at that stage will determine the time it will take to complete the river rafting trip. It could vary between one and two hours. This will be followed by an afternoon of relaxing at Khamkiri while enjoying the amenities the lodge has to offer.
Day 9
Enjoy breakfast at Khamkiri and depart at your own time for home.
FUEL REQUIREMENTS
Important - Ensure your vehicle is refuelled at Askham just before the Molopo Lodge. Fuel can be replenished enroute.
CATERING
Everyone must be totally self-sufficient for the duration of the trip.
ACCOMMODATION
This trip is offered as a camping/chalet overland trip and all participants must be equipped accordingly.
ABLUTION FACILITIES
All the camps we will be using on this Kalahari Deluxe trip offers excellent ablution facilities.
GENERAL INFORMATION
• DRINKING WATER – Always ensure you carry sufficient drinking water according to your needs.
- Drinking water can be replenished enroute.
• WOOD – Can be purchased at all campsites enroute.
• ELECTRICITY – all campsites have electricity/solar power.
• ELECTRICITY – Long extension leads and multi plugs are important items to bring.
• GARBAGE – All campsites offer garbage bins.
• A central braai area will be determined by the guide. Only one fire permitted.
• Portable braais are welcome to be used in the communal braai area.
• The days could be warm and the night’s cold. Pack clothing accordingly.
• Advisable to wear comfortable closed shoes or boots.
• Advisable to have a broad rim hat and sunscreen on hand.
• Advisable to always have a sun umbrella or awning on hand.
• Remember to bring your cameras.
VEHICLE REQUIREMENTS
• All vehicles must be in sound mechanical condition.
• Always have your spare keys with you.
• Recovery points fitted to the front and rear of your vehicle are a prerequisite.
• Your own Kinetic/recovery strap will be required.
• A tyre pump and tyre pressure gauge will be required to deflate/inflate tyres.
• Please ensure that a fire extinguisher is mounted close to hand in your vehicle.
• Use tie-down straps to secure all items packed. Loose items can become missiles.
29MHz TWO-WAY RADIOS
Communication between participating vehicles on the Southern Namibia trip is important for many reasons. It ensures the safety of drivers, passengers and vehicles while on the trip, where drivers can communicate with one another as regards to their location and situation, not to mention the interesting information that is shared with participants.
We require all 4×4 vehicles that do not have a 29MHz two-way radio, HIRE one from Cederberg 4x4 at a nominal fee of R600-00 for this Namibia Overland Adventure.
NB: Should you be hiring a 29MHz radio, please ensure that your lighter socket is working. If you intend running more than one item from the lighter socket, ensure to have a double adapter handy as well as spare fuses.

NB: If your vehicle is fitted with a 29MHz. radio, please make sure that channels 1, 14, 15 and 23 are open and working for this excursion.

• All bookings are made on a first-come-first-serve basis.
• Cederberg 4x4 requires your completed and signed booking form together with your BANK EFT POP (proof of payment) of a 50% deposit for the number of people as per your booking form to confirm your booking.
• Cederberg 4x4 requires, on or before Wednesday 12 August 2026, your POP (proof of payment) for the total outstanding balance including radio hire cost if applicable for this trip.
• Your completed and signed booking form binds you to the conditions on page one and two.
• Should you wish to cancel or withdraw from this excursion after returning your completed and signed booking form together with your BANK EFT POP (proof of payment) to Cederberg 4x4, you will be required to find a replacement, totaling to the same numbers as your booking, before any credit or refunds will be considered.
• Should you not arrive at the rendezvous to partake in this excursion or choose to leave the excursion before it officially ends, you will not be entitled to any credit or refund.
