The imaginary lines running from pole to pole are called Meridians or lines of longitude. The zero Meridian is called the Greenwich Meridian and it runs through the Greenwich observatory near London. These lines of longitude run from 0° to 180° East and 0° to 180° West. The lines of latitude run east west or west east around the globe, the equator as 0° (Zero degrees), the South Pole 90° South and the North Pole 90° North. These longitude and latitude lines are used in navigation to accurately calculate your position on earth.
In the past few years we have driven numerous Latitude and Longitude lines, always endeavoring to drive as close as possible to these lines, as well as trying to cross these lines as many times as possible. Not being sure how far we will be driving each day or where we will be camping each night, no advanced bookings can be made, all adding to the adventure of this trip. In the past we have made use of farmer’s dry dams, formal campsites, camping in the veld or under overhanging rock formations sheltering us from the elements. All of these interesting places where we stayed was with the permission of the local farmers and was arranged as we continued our journey to our final destination. These are a few of the reasons why we advise everyone to be fully self-sufficient with regards to food, water and wood for this trip. Stops are made en-route to replenish supplies, as we will be passing through or close to many towns.
There has been talk around many campfires about visiting all the Lighthouses and visible Shipwrecks on the South African coastline. It is time to set all the idle chatter aside and put this into practice by starting the first of four exciting, adventurous, history and fun-filled trips visiting all the Lighthouses and visible Shipwrecks on the South African coastline. There has been a lot of research and information gathering done with regards to our planned, four, adventure Lighthouses and Shipwrecks trips, ensuring that a lot of information will be shared with everyone on each trip. As there are not that many visible shipwrecks on the South African coastline compared to the lighthouses, we will have numerous information sharing evenings on each trip.
Yes, there are 45 Lighthouses built on the South African coastline, each with its own identity, being landmarks for vessels at see and ensuring maximum safety for vessels, employees, passengers and cargo. Like each human with their own unique personal DNA profile, each lighthouse has its own unique personal “DNA” profile in the form of the colour and flashing light.

WEST COAST ( 7 DAYS) - School Holidays
There is no better way to end the local trips for the year than with an extended visit to the West Coast. Seven days and six night to totally unwind and relax. The first impression of the West Coast is that time stood still for thousands of years, while the Atlantic Ocean moulds the coast line, piece by piece, every day. The many unspoiled bays and beaches are evidence of how wonderful nature truly is. A very special part of our country well worth visiting.
The rendezvous is at Garries, from where we will visit the small town of Hondeklipbaai and the wreck of the Aristea before we head south to the Spoeg River Caves and our first camp at Boggerolbaai. We spend two nights at each camp, giving people time to enjoy, try their hand at fishing or Cray fishing, relax at the camp or just explore the area, either on foot or by vehicle. Many other interesting places like Koringkorrelbaai, Groen River Mouth, Island Point, Jurg-se-Khaja, Brand-se-Baai, Matesa-se-Bad and Gert du Toit-se-Baai, to mention but a few, will be some of the places we will visit. Special activities for the children will be catered for, giving parents enough time to enjoy the beauty of the area. Make sure your camera is packed as you will experience some of the best sunsets on the West Coast.

SADDLE HILL (NAMIB DESERT) - School Holidays
Most peoples first reaction is a look of disbelief when you tell them that you are going to the Namib Desert in December/January. What most people don't realize, until you start explaining things, is that Saddle Hill camp is less than one kilometre from the sea. During the summer months a breeze comes from the the cold Atlantic Ocean, bringing with it cool enjoyable weather, with average temperatures in the mid twenties. In fact it can get quiet cool at night and you might even need to wear a warm jacket.
Our rendezvous is always in Luderitz and this will be the fourth year we will be spending New Year in the Namib Desert. I can think of no better and safer place to be than at Saddle Hill. A further bonus is the accommodation that is available. You only need to take your sleeping bag while the staff prepares three meals per day.
The five days activities are made up as follows; one day is required to get to Saddle Hill and one day is required to return to Leverets. One of the three remaining days we will drive north to Spencer Bay, with Mercury Island keeping an ever watchful eye of the beach and the wreck of the Octave, which ran aground through human error. Another wreck, that of the United trader is our next destination. The following day we will drive south, visit a sand-covered mining town, the remains of machinery used in the diamond mining process, continue to Gibraltar, the official border between Spergebied One and Spergebied Two. The last day before our return will be a day of sand boarding for young and old, followed by an optional dune challenge drive.
Each new year we have a fancy dress party celebrating the arrival of the New Year. This trip must be close to, if not tops of your to-visit list.

Long Tours in 2010
Our Long Trips are mainly leisure tours without serious 4x4ing, except in the dunes of Namibia and the Kalahari or perhaps crossing the rivers of the Wild Coast. We do, however, travel 'off-the-beaten-track', so only vehicles with low range can be accommodated.
With our trips being very family orientated, we try to incorporate the school holidays in our planning.
Our excursions are usually camping excursions, so everyone must be equipped accordingly.
With regard to catering, everyone must be totally self-sufficient, for all meals, for the duration of the trip.
