ANYTHING THAT FLOATS ON THE BERG RIVER

WITH THE OPTION OF DRIVING THE HEUNINGBERG 4X4 TRAIL

21 MARCH 2012

PUBLIC HOLIDAY FAMILY FUN AT AFFORDABLE PRICES

ANYTHING THAT FLOATS

Heuningberg 4x4 is situated on the bank of the Berg River near Porterville. Here we will set camp for the day under large trees supplying sufficient shade for all. Enjoy a late breakfast while getting your “Anything that Floats” ready to take on the waters of the Berg River. At present the water is low at normal summer levels making it safe for the whole family to enjoy. Always remember the safety measures when partaking in any water activity. We suggest you devise your “Anything that Floats” to keep your body out of the water as we will be spending approximately two hours on the water. It is advisable to take drinking water and something light to nibble en-route. A communal braai will be enjoyed upon completion of the “Anything that Floats” at the camping area.

HEUNINGBERG 4X4 TRAIL

Should you choose not to partake in the anything that floats, you will have the opportunity to drive the Heuningberg 4x4 trail while the other people are enjoying the river. The mountain section of the Heuningberg 4x4 trail should take a maximum of two hours to complete. The trail grading difficulty is between 2 and 2½ with technical ascending and descending sections before and after the viewpoint. Upon reaching the viewpoint the snaking trail of the Berg River, through the low laying valleys, can clearly be seen, bordered by the many maize and wine farms, all forming part of the colourful patch-like scenery below.  Many well-known landmarks can also be seen in the far distance. These landmarks normally become interesting discussions amongst participants.  Depending on the time of the year the trail is visited, the newly ploughed land or the young green maize standing proud or golden maize blowing in the wind will leave you astonished at the beauty of nature.  The fantastic view from the viewpoint is definitely worth the effort. An interesting descent awaits participants upon leaving the viewpoint. Not too difficult, but enough to keep you on your toes until you reach the low lying ground close to the river before heading back to the camp.

ALTERNATIVE ACTIVITIES

Should you choose not to partake in the “Anything that Floats” or the driving of the Heuningberg4x4 trail, you are most welcome to try your hand at fishing or use this opportunity to relax in tranquil surroundings.

SUGGESTIONS

Should you partake in the “Anything that Floats” we suggest you consider safety jackets or blow-up wings for the children. You might even want to consider attaching the smaller children to your “Anything that Floats”. Safety always comes first.
