From Llandudno in the west to Wilderness in the east
General
The imaginary lines running from pole to pole are called Meridians or lines of longitude. The zero Meridian is called the Greenwich Meridian and it runs through the Greenwich observatory near London. These lines of longitude run from 0° to 180° East and 0° to 180° West. The lines of latitude run east west or west east around the globe, the equator as 0° (Zero degrees), the South Pole 90° South and the North Pole 90° North. These longitude and latitude lines are used in navigation to accurately calculate your position on earth.
In the past few years we have driven numerous Latitude and Longitude lines, always endeavouring to drive as close as possible to these lines, as well as trying to cross these lines as many times as possible. Not being sure how far we will be driving each day or where we will be camping each night, no advance bookings can be made, all adding to the true adventure of this trip. In the past we have made use of farmer’s dry dams, formal campsites, camping in the veld or under overhanging rock formations, sheltering us from the elements. All of these interesting places where we stayed was with the permission of the local farmers and was arranged as we continued our journey to our final destination. These are a few of the reasons why we advise everyone to be fully self-sufficient with regards to food, water and wood for this trip. Stops are made en-route to replenish supplies, as we will be passing through or close to many towns.
34° Latitude South - Llandudno to Wilderness
Our adventure driving along the imaginary line of 34° Latitude South from West to East will start at Llandudno near Cape Town and end near Wilderness beach just north of George. Interesting suburbs and areas around Cape Town will be driven through before we will negotiate many gravel roads through numerous farming communities. Interesting mountain sections will be encountered through Villiersdorp en-route to Swellendam, two towns situated very close to 34° Latitude South. Although this latitude excursion is by far the shortest of any of the previous latitude line excursion driven, it offers the most road options while traversing the many small towns en-route. We invite participants to bring along their most detailed maps of the route we intend driving, as these can be used to give us maximum information with regards to roads we choose to drive the following day. These discussions always ensures good group interaction.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Vehicles: Vehicles with and without low range as well as 4x2 with diff-lock can be accommodated.
Trailers: Off Road Caravans & Off Road Trailers can be accommodated on this excursion.

RENDEZVOUS
PLACE : CONSTANTIA NEK RESTAURANT parking area.

TIME : 07h00 SHARP. Respect your fellow participants and be on time.
AGENDA
The official start of the expedition starts at the Constantia Nek Restaurant. Once everybody has arrived at the rendezvous we will head for La Cuccini in Hout Bay, a very popular local restaurant, where you can enjoy a light breakfast and discuss the various options of the roads to be used on our first day of the expedition. One of the main challenges for the first section of the 34° Latitude South will be to negotiate a realistic safe passage through the suburbs of Cape Town, before heading for Villiersdorp and Swellendam, two towns in very close proximity of our imaginary line of 34° Latitude South. As always we will endeavour to set camp on or as close as possible to the imaginary line of 34° Latitude South. It is around these communal campfires and early morning driver’s meetings that the day’s route will be determined. If you have not done the exercise, do it now, take a map and plot the route we will be driving and see all the interesting places we will come across en-route. You will notice many of the off-the-beaten-track gravel roads can be driven. Our 4x4 encounters en-route will be determined by the elements and the weather, as well as the routes we choose to follow to our final destination. All of the uncertainty of where we will set camp or what distance we travel every day adds to the flavour of true expedition style adventure.
FUEL STOPS EN-ROUTE
Sufficient fuel stops will be made en-route, eliminating the necessity of carrying additional fuel.
CATERING
Everyone must be totally self-sufficient for all meals for the duration of the trip. We should be able to replenish supplies en-route.
ACCOMMODATION
As this expedition is offered as a camping expedition, everyone must be equipped accordingly.
ABLUTION FACILITIES
Ablution facilities cannot be guaranteed en-route as we do not know where we will be setting camp each night. We will however endeavour to set camp where ablution facilities are available.
GENERAL INFORMATION
• Due to the popularity of our adventure Latitude and Longitude trips, we suggest you book immediately to avoid disappointment, as we can only accommodate a limited number of vehicles on these excursions.
• WATER can be replenished en-route but it is always advisable to carry sufficient drinking water.
• WOOD – Please ensure that each vehicle carry a minimum of 2 x bags of wood.
• Wood can be replenished en-route.
• ICE – We suggest that you replenish ice wherever possible if you enjoy using ice in your drinks.
• GARBAGE – What we take in we bring out.
• Garbage disposal stops will be made en-route.
• Electricity cannot be guaranteed at the campsites. Never leave your electrical extension lead at home.
• A communal braai area will be determined at each campsite.
• Portable braai’s welcome in the communal braai area.
• Remember braai grid, braai stand, and tongs, eating utensils, table, chairs, tent and poles.
• The days could be warm and the nights cold. Pack clothing accordingly.
• Advisable to wear comfortable closed shoes or boots.
• Advisable to have a broad rim hat and sun block on hand.
• Advisable to always have a sun umbrella or awning on hand as shade cannot be guaranteed.
VEHICLE REQUIREMENTS
• All vehicles must be in sound mechanical condition.
• Recovery points fitted to the front and rear on your vehicle are prerequisite.
• Your own Kinetic/recovery strap will be advisable.
• Tyre pump and pressure gauge will be required to deflate/inflate tyres. Pack where accessible.
• All other recovery equipment will be supplied.
29 MHz RADIOS
Communication between participating vehicles on any 4x4 excursion is important for many reasons. It ensures the safety of drivers, passengers and vehicles while on a 4x4 trail, where drivers can communicate with one another as regards to their location and situation, not to mention the interesting information that is shared with participants. The fun part is the many interesting stories that are shared among participants taking the boredom out of the long distances we need to travel to enjoy the great outdoors.
We suggest all 4x4 vehicles that don’t have a 29MHz two-way radio, hire one from us at a nominal fee of R200-00 for this excursion.
Should you be hiring a 29MHz radio, please ensure that the lighter socket in your 4x4 vehicle is working. If you intend running more than one item from the lighter socket, ensure that you have double adapter handy as well as spare fuses.
NB: If your vehicle is fitted with a 29MHz. radio, please make sure that channels 1, 14 and 23 are open and working for this excursion.

• We can accommodate a maximum of 12 vehicles on this expedition.
• This Cederberg 4x4 expedition is subject to a minimum of six (6) vehicles.
• All bookings are made on a first-come-first-served basis.
• To secure your place, a 50% non-refundable deposit per vehicle is payable upon booking.
• Your completed and signed booking form is conformation of your booking and therefore subject to the condition on page two of the bookings form.
The full amount is payable on or before FRIDAY 13 APRIL 2012
